SCIENCE CENTER OFFERS DAY CAMP AND SCIENCE THEME CAMPS

Holderness, NH - The Squam Lakes Natural Science Center is offering Science Center Day Camp to children entering grades 2nd - 5th during the 2003 summer season. There will be 2 two-week sessions beginning on July 7th and ending
on August 1st. The camp will be held Monday through Friday from 9:00am - 3:00pm. Children attending the day camp will learn about our natural environment while participating in a wide variety of educational and creative activities. Hands-on nature study and environmental education activities, swimming lessons with a certified instructor, arts and crafts
with a natural twist, outdoor skills instruction and cooperative recreation activities are planned to educate and entertain the campers. Cost per two-week session is $320 per child with discounts available for members.

Want a little more "science" in your Science Center Day Camp? Try the Center's theme camps. Campers will spend their days exploring, observing and discovering life in the forests, ponds, lakes, and streams of the
Science Center. Activities will combine direct scientific observations with art, folklore, games and crafts that will increase the camper's environmental awareness. Terra Camp will be offered August 4th - August 8th from 9:00am - 3:00pm for 2nd - 5th graders. Aqua Camp will be offered August 11th - August 15th from 9:00am - 3:00pm for 2nd - 5th graders, too. The cost per one week session is $215/members and $240/non-members.

Dan Reidy, Squam Lakes Natural Science Center Day Camp Director stated, "The Center offers a great day camp program utilizing the natural resources at the Center including the trails, exhibits, animals and landscape. Campers get to experience all the Science Center has to offer."

Dan Reidy, a sixth grade teacher at Moultonborough Central school, has been the Director of the Science Center's day camp for 6 years and was recently awarded the Christa McAuliffe Sabbatical for 2003. Working as a project manager with NHPTV, the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center, and the NH State Geologist, Mr. Reidy will take a sabbatical from his classroom to create an interactive website about NH's diverse geology, to aid elementary and middle school teachers with their science curriculum requirements. Access to the
information will be free of charge to teachers around the state and Mr. Reidy will also help teachers integrate the program into their work plans. Mr. Reidy is the 18th New Hampshire Christa McAuliffe Fellow to have been
selected since 1986.

The Squam Lakes Natural Science Center is a private, non-profit educational institution located on a 200-acre sanctuary in Holderness at the south end of Squam Lake. Our mission is to advance understanding of ecology by exploring New Hampshire's natural world. The Center offers a variety of natural science education programs to schools and the general public. At the Center, there is 3.5 miles of interpretive trails, including a 1.25-mile
live animal trail, exhibiting wildlife in natural enclosures.
